ROMAN CALCULUS will expand the current knowledge on ancient medicine by:
Analyzing Roman individuals dated from the 1st to the 6th century AD and affected by chronic pathological conditions requiring the use of therapeutic remedies
Setting new standards for detecting the presence of drugs, mineral and metallic substances in modern dental calculus samples.
Investigating diagenetic processes that could affect the chemical composition of ancient tartar by using contemporary samples, integrating for the first time archaeological, clinical and forensic disciplines for understanding medical care and lifestyles in ancient times.Â
